Benny's Japan News Flash Vol.23 | ARTE Aichi Opening, Jay Chou Yokohama Collaboration, Okinawa Illumination | 2026.10.27
分享
October 27, 2026, "Japan Early Bird" Vol. 23. This issue features the opening announcement of the ARTE MUSEUM NAGOYA, street performances in Shizuoka, a collaboration between Jay Chou and Yokohama Chinatown, and the Okinawa light-up and Ibaraki winter fireworks. What I want to help you see clearly is not just where to go, but also "where it actually is," "what's free," "what to buy to get a free gift," and rescheduling restrictions, so that interesting news can become a feasible trip.
Benny's Kitchen Recommendation | Cooking is fun every day, not just on trips
Arnest eN Japanese Wok
If you love fried rice and stir-frying, I recommend this unlined iron wok, suitable for gas and IH, and perfect for home cooks willing to season and care for their wok.
View Sizes & Shop →
Arnest Microwave Cooker
To simplify meal prep for one or a small family, consider microwave cooking with a lid, making multiple dishes in one container and reducing the number of dishes to wash.
View Usage & Shop →The wok still needs to be seasoned, oiled, and maintained according to instructions, and is not guaranteed to be completely non-stick. The microwave cooker is for microwave use only and cannot be placed in an oven, over an open flame, or on IH; follow the manual for heating times and use heat-resistant gloves when removing.
Information date for this issue: October 27, 2026. The following is compiled from the posts and official sources provided in this issue, with all times in Japan Standard Time and prices in Japanese yen. Real-time ticket availability and free gift stock have not been confirmed; please check the latest announcements from each organizer before departure and ticket purchase.
1. ARTE MUSEUM NAGOYA: Opening November 18, Located in Chita, Aichi

If you love light and shadow art, keep an eye on ARTE MUSEUM NAGOYA. Japan's first location will open on November 18, 2026, featuring 17 immersive art spaces combining visuals, sound, and fragrance. This is an opening announcement, not a venue that is already open to visitors, nor is it a new announcement released on October 27.
Although the name includes "NAGOYA," it is actually located in Chita City, Aichi Prefecture, about a 3-minute walk from Meitetsu Shinmaiko Station, not in central Nagoya. For me, this is a point that should be noted before photo angles.
- Opening date: November 18, 2026.
- Opening hours: 10:00–20:00, last entry at 19:00.
- Adult tickets: ¥3,400 on weekdays, ¥3,800 on weekends and holidays.
- CAFE dara package: An additional ¥500; general tickets do not include the cafe.
- Free for children aged 3 or under; the venue has no dedicated parking lot.
Benny's reminder: The image is an official promotional graphic, not an actual photo taken after opening; the promotional whale image should also not be considered the confirmed final exhibition layout for Nagoya. The 15% early bird discount ended on October 5, so do not budget based on the old discount. Dated tickets do not have designated entry times, but you should still check the ticketing arrangements for the date you select.

2. Shizuoka Daidogei World Cup: October 31 to November 3, Regular Street Performances Free

If you are going to Shizuoka at the end of October or beginning of November, the Daidogei World Cup in Shizuoka is worth adding to your list. From October 31 to November 3, 2026, performance venues such as Jofuku Castle Park and the city center will become street theaters. Regular performances are free, and you can tip as you wish.
However, I will not summarize the entire event as "all free." Special seating and the indoor Premium Stage require separate tickets, so you need to check the ticket types if you want to sit down and watch a specific performance.
- Regular street performances: Free, with voluntary tips.
- Special seating: ¥1,500 per performance.
- Indoor Premium Stage: General advance tickets ¥3,000, same-day ¥3,500.
- November 2 daytime: ¥2,000 flat rate.
- Premium Stage advance tickets: Available until 18:00 the day before each performance; no same-day tickets if sold out.
If you still have the September edition of the printed guide, I recommend downloading the official revised version first, paying special attention to the November 1 program update. Performance venues have different times, and shows may be rescheduled or canceled in case of rain, so do not rush from venue to venue based only on the old schedule.
Benny's reminder: Photography, video recording, and audio recording are prohibited in the paid indoor venues and special seating areas. The image is an official performance promotional photo, not an actual photo taken at this year's Shizuoka venue, so do not infer the performance location for the day based solely on the image.

3. Jay Chou × Yokohama Chinatown: Different Campaigns at 85 Stores, Stickers with Specific Meals

Jay Chou fans, take note! The Yokohama Chinatown collaboration commemorating the release of the Japanese edition of the commemorative album will be held from October 31 to November 15, 2026, with 85 stores participating in different campaigns. I will treat it as a themed walk where you can eat and explore, not as a concert itinerary.
To collect stickers, the key is to buy the specified meals or products at each store, not just any purchase. The 85 stores represent the overall scale of participation, but this does not mean every store will have stickers, display boards, and BGM.
- Junkaigaku specified set: Pearl Royal Milk Tea + 4 Original Gyoza, ¥1,000, including tax.
- Honten specified items: Three varieties of mixed gyoza, ¥980, including tax.
- Stickers: 4 designs in total, cannot be selected, first come first served, while supplies last.
- Campaign period: October 31 to November 15, 2026, not yet started at the time of this issue's publication.
Benny's reminder: The official announcement has not stated that Jay Chou himself will attend or perform, so do not interpret the collaboration as a meet-and-greet. I will first check the official list of participating stores, then choose the items I really want to eat; the stickers are an extra surprise, with no guarantee they will still be available when you arrive.

4. Okinawa Southeast Botanical Park Light-Up: Opening October 24, 20-Meter Whale Shark Display

If you want to see the sea of lights on a night trip to Okinawa, keep an eye on Southeast Botanical Park. Due to a typhoon, the park canceled the originally scheduled October 23 lighting ceremony, and the light-up season has been rescheduled to start on October 24, 2026, through May 23, 2027. The approximately 20-meter-long whale shark display is one of the highlights, and the image shows a blue sea of light that is perfect for walking slowly and taking your time to look.
- Regular night tickets: ¥2,500 for ages 15 and up; ¥900 for ages 4–14; free for children aged 3 or under.
- Regular 1-DAY adult tickets: ¥2,850.
- Night ticket entry: From 16:30.
- Lighting: 17:00–22:00, last entry at 21:30.
- Special event dates: December 19, 2026, to January 3, 2027, and January 9 to 11, 2027.
If you have the original printed Adult Lighting Ceremony Invitation Ticket for October 23, 2026, the park has arranged for it to be usable through October 31. This extension arrangement applies to specific ticket types, not all old tickets.
Benny's reminder: Some old posters still say October 23, so please refer to the postponement announcement and current light-up season page. Do not directly apply the regular ¥2,500 night ticket price to Christmas, New Year's Eve, and designated holidays; select the correct arrival date before purchasing tickets.

5. Ibaraki Joso New Fireworks: Over 10,000 Shots on December 12, Viewing Seats from ¥1,500

Fireworks do not have to wait until summer. The "Joso New Fireworks" in Joso City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is scheduled to be held from 17:00 to 19:20 on December 12, 2026, and the organizer announced a new draft on October 26 featuring over 10,000 fireworks, as well as bringing the "Dream Fireworks" drawn by local elementary and junior high school students into the night sky. I think this kind of project that incorporates local creations is more interesting than simply counting the number of fireworks.
The Christmas market is free, but viewing seats for the fireworks require a separate ticket, so do not confuse the two. The image is from the 1st event, not an actual photo taken after this year's venue was completed.
- Event date: December 12, 2026; rescheduled to the next day in case of severe weather.
- Fireworks time: 17:00–19:20.
- Sloped Area B: ¥1,500.
- Sloped Excite Area: ¥3,000; S-Seats: ¥5,000.
- Area B: Free for junior high school students or younger accompanied by a paid guardian.
- Area B ticket sales end: December 11 at 23:59, earlier than other major ticket types.
Other major ticket types are listed as being on sale until 18:00 on December 12, but this does not guarantee remaining tickets; the deadline for pre-payment at convenience stores is December 6 at 23:59. Online purchases require a CN membership and ticket pickup at a Japanese 7-Eleven or FamilyMart, so overseas travelers should arrange a ticket pickup method in advance.
Benny's reminder: The organizer's new draft and the ticketing page have different opening times, so I will not state a definitive entry time here; please check the latest instructions before departure. Sponsorship benefits are non-refundable if canceled, and postponed tickets remain valid; also, please read the ticketing terms carefully before paying.

Japan Travel Quick Q&A: 5 Things Most Likely to Be Wrong Before Departure
Is ARTE MUSEUM NAGOYA in Central Nagoya?
No, it is actually located in Chita City, Aichi Prefecture, about a 3-minute walk from Meitetsu Shinmaiko Station, and is scheduled to open on November 18, 2026. Adult tickets are ¥3,400 on weekdays and ¥3,800 on weekends and holidays, with the Cafe package for an additional ¥500.
Are All Shizuoka Daidogei World Cup Performances Free?
No. Regular street performances are free, with voluntary tips; special seating and the indoor Premium Stage require separate tickets. The event is from October 31 to November 3, 2026, and you should use the official revised schedule.
Will Jay Chou Personally Perform at Yokohama Chinatown?
The official information for this issue has not announced his personal attendance or performance arrangements. This is a collaboration campaign from October 31 to November 15, 2026, not a concert or meet-and-greet; stickers require purchasing specified items, are random in design, and are available while supplies last.
The Okinawa Light-Up Has Been Postponed, Are All Old Tickets Usable Through October 31?
No. The extension arrangement only applies to the original printed October 23, 2026, Adult Lighting Ceremony Invitation Ticket, and should not be generalized to all old tickets. The light-up season actually starts on October 24.
The Joso New Fireworks Market Is Free, So Do I Not Need to Buy Fireworks Tickets?
Free only refers to the Christmas market; fireworks viewing seats require tickets, starting at ¥1,500 for Area B, and have designated arrangements for children to be accompanied. Area B ticket sales end on December 11 at 23:59, and you still need to check real-time ticket availability and pickup requirements.
Benny's Itinerary Summary: Choose the Area First, Then Check the Date and Ticket Type
This issue covers Aichi, Shizuoka, Yokohama, Okinawa, and Ibaraki, so I will not force these five pieces of news into a one-day itinerary. If you are going to the Chubu region, you can consider a Chita itinerary after the ARTE opening; if going to Yokohama, choose meals based on the collaboration store list; for the Okinawa night trip and Ibaraki winter fireworks, arrange your return transportation and the day's ticket type first.
This article is compiled from the posts, official sources, and verification notes provided in this issue. Information graphics, promotional photos, and character attributions are as shown in each image; ARTE is a pre-opening promotional image, Shizuoka is an official performance promotional photo, and Joso is from the 1st event, none of which should be considered actual photos taken on the day of this issue's publication. Ticketing, performances, weather, and inventory arrangements are subject to the organizer's latest announcements.
